A Popular TV Show

The so funny American TV show "Friends" is so popular and wll-known in the U.S. I watched it originally in China and I was hopelessly addicted to television. The TV show is about the six common American young people' lives, truthy, warming and inspiring. The six main actors use their excellent acting skills to perform the show, which will catch your attention and keep getting funny. Also, you can learn some lessons from this. Of course, as an immigrant or one person is interested to Eglish language, it is a good teaching aid to help. It is so greatest TV show really.

An interest in the Pop Culture Class

The class of Pop culture that I take this semester is so interesting and insignificant for me, I have even changed slightly for it. First, I begin to care some things which are never noticed by me before, such as reading movie reviews online. In addion, I have more thinking about culture than before.For example, I often see that some fathers teach their children to play baseball in summer. So, I will wonder whether it is related to American culture and try to know what or why. Next, I become confident with my progress. Through studing, my reading and writing skills in English get obvous progress. I can use PowerPiont skillfully due to frequent practice. Most importantly, I am not shy to communicate with my classmates in class.

Since taking this class, I have been aware that I need to study popular culture, which maks me get valuable new insight and connection to the society we live in. Especially as an immigrant, I need to know the different of the American pop culture from my homeland's. It will help me to know and adapt to the new enveroinment better.

Pop Culture

Today, science and technology has come to pervade every aspect of our lives. Computer, television and vedio have almost been an important part of people's new lifestyles. Especially computer, for me, a student, it is even my the closest friend. In school, I use it to complete practices or exams our teahers give me, sometimes i also write notes using computer. Going back home, I will finish our homework, go into Net to search imformation I need or to read some articles by computer. In my spare time, I prefer to commucate with my friends in China. At the same time, I can know some new friends from different countries in FaceBook online too. Of course, like many people, returning e-mails is one thing need to be done every day. Furthemore, watching movies, listening to music and shopping online are very interesting things for me. In short, using computer makes my life easier. It not only makes me learn some skills which help me to study easily, but it also enpends my knowledge of the world.

Our group chose main three examples of pop culture in Chicago dowmtown, including Macy's, Starbuck and MillenniumPark. Macy's is one of the largest and most influencial corporations in the U.S. Until now, it is over eighty years old already. Thousands of American like to go shoppipng there. Espeically in Christmas' holiday, Christmas Tree and all kinds of decorations make Macy's more beautiful. Also, in the U.S., almost everyone recognizes the logo, starbucks. It represents the largest coffeenouse company in the world. Even though its coffee is significantly higher than the market average, it is still so popular because of its special taste. What is mentioned finally is Millenmium Park, which is an award-winning center for art,music and landscape design.Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Crown Fountain, Lrie Garden and Cloud Gate are famous features in the park. Since its opening in July 2004, it has hosted thousands of people. These main examples hold special shared meaning for many people.

The Cultural Marking

My post includes two parts, which are about China and America. The Great Wall,Emperor Qin;s Terracotta Warriors,Kongzi, some of pictures are part of reflctions to the Chinese culture. The others show Yangzi Riever. My hometoem is near the longest riever in China. Most of people believe in Buddhism, but our generation is educated of atheism in school. As a music fan, Chinese folk music and Peking Opera are my favorite. Zuying Song and Dongtian Guang are my favorite artists. When I came to the U.S., fasional styles, relexed lifestyle, the open and free media culture and passionate pop music have led me to a new world. I traveled to thirty cities about many states in the U.S. I hope to have a chance to tour U.S.A with my family by a camper trailer to experience another American life.

A Chinese folk Song

Dragon Boart Tune is a Chinese folk song, which is from Tujia ethnic group in HuBei. Why we call the song is a tune is because it is one feature of Chinese folk songs like a melody, whch is from local people, and it is related to local customs. The song is about a story that a lively girl wanted to cross a river to greet her relatives for the Chinese New Year, so she asked who could help her to cross the river. The song is very interesting and the melody is so nice. As a folk songs artist, Songzuying used her excellend sing skills to perform the song and led us to the different culture from a minority. It is like the word says,Music is a cultural voice of minorities. Furthemore, no matter where you are from, no matter which language you speak, music makes us connect each other together.

Life is Beautiful

The movie,"Life is beautiful" is a comdy. Roberto Benigni is the director,screenwriter and main actore. It won the Best Foreign Flim in 1998' Oscar. The film is about Mr. Benigni' Family life in the World WarII. After Guido(Roberto Benigni) who was a book-sellsman had got married a beautiful teacher (Nicoletta Braschi), they had a clever son Giosu(Giorgio Cantarni). Later, the German Nazi armies came into the village Guido's family live in. The family with a lot of villagers were sent to the Nazi concertation camp. In order that the son could still feel safely and happy, the great father began pretenting to play a game with his son...... Really, the moive of "Life is beautiful" is a very fascinating movie.
